Students in MP Government Autonomous Colleges to Learn Indian Languages
New global opportunities are set to open for students studying in colleges across Madhya Pradesh from the upcoming academic session. In 68 PM Shri and autonomous colleges of the state, students will be offered courses in 22 Indian languages along with seven foreign languages.
The Department of Higher Education has completed preparations for this initiative. From the next academic session, a six-month certificate course will be launched. Under this scheme, students will also be taught Mandarin (China) and Russian.
The Department has designated autonomous colleges and Institutions of Higher Education Excellence as nodal centers. A committee has been constituted to design the curriculum for all languages, which will finalize and submit the syllabus by 30 January.
The certificate course will be conducted in a completely online mode with a total duration of 60 hours. Students will be required to pay a nominal fee of ₹500 to learn one language. According to officials, the objective of this initiative is to highlight the importance of foreign languages and prepare students for national and international employment opportunities.
Plan for Indian Languages Ready
The plan to teach 22 Indian languages in colleges has already been finalized. These include Telugu, Tamil, Kannada, Marathi, Malayalam, Sindhi, Manipuri, Odia, Assamese, Bengali, Punjabi, Gujarati, among others.
Foreign Languages to Be Taught
According to the proposal, the following foreign languages will be taught in colleges:
- German
- French
- Russian
- Korean
- Spanish
- Mandarin
- Japanese
Language experts will be appointed at the college level to conduct these courses.
