The Maha Kumbh Mela 2025 has begun. On the occasion of Poush Purnima today, the first sacred bath has taken place at the Triveni Sangam in Prayagraj. On 14th January, the Amrit Snan will be celebrated during Makar Sankranti. This time, it is expected that around 40 crore devotees will attend the Maha Kumbh. The Maha Kumbh is expected to give a boost to the country's economy as well.
The Maha Kumbh began with the holy dip at Triveni Sangam on 13th January during Poush Purnima. The Poush Purnima bath started early in the Brahma Muhurat at 4:32 am. However, devotees began bathing from midnight of 12th January, at the sacred confluence of the Ganga, Yamuna, and the invisible Saraswati at various ghats. The month-long 'Kalpvas' also began.
A special coincidence will occur on 14th January with the celebration of both Poush Purnima and Amrit Snan during Makar Sankranti. This has increased excitement among the devotees. Despite the cold and light rain, there has been a continuous influx of devotees. Camps of saints and sadhus are active, and the air is filled with the chanting of Vedic hymns and discourses. District and fair administrations have completed all necessary preparations, and tight security measures have been implemented. The Maha Kumbh Mela is expected to contribute to a 1% increase in the country's GDP. In view of the crowd pressure, traffic has been restricted at some bridges in the area, and immediate modifications have been made to the traffic management plan. Rehearsals have also been conducted in the 4,000-hectare extended area of the Maha Kumbh.
During Poush Purnima and Makar Sankranti, helicopter flower showers will be held for saints and devotees bathing at all 44 ghats spread over a 12-kilometer area.
