Eliminating interview myths and biases
Many candidates have an unknown fear about the interview. What is the interview like ? What happens ? Who are the people taking the interview ? What do they ask ? How to answer their questions ? Are the questions asked in English or Hindi or any other language ? What should a person who does not have good or sufficient knowledge of English language do ? How should the questions be answered ? What kind of clothes should be worn for the interview ? What preparations should be made before the interview ? Many such questions naturally arise in the minds of the candidates, whose answers they unnecessarily keep bothering to find, which definitely has a bad effect on their preparation , whereas the answers to these questions lie in the reasons for the origin of these questions and the common reasons for the origin of these questions are - the ignorance of the candidates , lack of information related to the interview , misconceptions created in their minds due to false , less or directionless guidance etc. You can solve these yourself - through your self-study , dedication and hard work under the able guidance of a capable guide. Candidates for the interview should pay special attention to the following aspects-
Persona
Generally , the image of a person that is formed in the mind of another person by looking at his physical appearance, i.e., his complexion , height , lifestyle , clothes , hair style etc. , is considered as personality by people , which is misleading . Only the external appearance cannot be considered as personality .
In fact, the meaning of personality is wide. Personality means the result obtained from the analysis of all the qualities and demerits of a particular person , which may be essentially present in him , such as the appearance , lifestyle , dress , height , education , speech , knowledge , ability , courage , patience , discretion , character , habits , hobbies or interests , thoughts , behavior , point of view etc. of that particular person. In other words, it can be said that only after analyzing the above-mentioned factors that determine the personality of a person, it can be decided what kind of personality a particular person has.
general knowledge
and common sense
` General knowledge ' does not mean the ` general knowledge ' of a person about something in particular , rather general knowledge means that knowledge of a person (latest information about the surroundings , environment , society , politics , national and international activities , environmental science and technology , sports and culture etc.) which can be expected according to the age and capability of that particular person. Detailed knowledge of a particular subject cannot come under the category of general knowledge, nor can such knowledge which should not be expected from that person, like the answer to any complex question related to social science or engineering cannot be expected, nor can such a question be asked under general knowledge , because the answer to such questions can be expected from an ordinary educated person.
As far as ` intuitive knowledge ' is concerned, it is an important part of a person's personality. Sometimes this ` intuitive knowledge ' proves to be wonderful and beneficial for a person and its absence sometimes becomes extremely harmful for a person. ` Intuitive knowledge ' can be called `reluctance'. It is the ` decision -making ability' developed instantly on the basis of `premonition' and `prudence'. ` Intuitive knowledge ' is generally used when a difficult situation arises or when a difficult question arises whose correct answer is either not known or there is some doubt in the mind about the answer or the answer is not remembered , but it is necessary to give the answer immediately.
Interest in work , ability to understand the work and sense of dedication
Candidates appearing for the interview must be aware of the following things before attending the interview-
·
For which post is the candidate appearing for the interview ?
·
What are the responsibilities , rights and duties of the post for which the candidate is appearing for the interview ?
·
Is the candidate interested in the post for which he is giving the interview or not ?
·
If the candidate is appointed to that post, how will he be able to demonstrate his better capabilities during the interview ?subject matter
knowledge
Before appearing in the interview, every candidate should check his subject-related knowledge and ensure that he has adequate knowledge of the subject or subjects in which he has done his intermediate , graduation or post graduation . It is worth mentioning that some such questions are often asked in the ` interview ' , which can test the subject-related knowledge of the candidate. Therefore, while preparing for the interview, those subjects must be reviewed or revised so that satisfactory answers can be given to the questions asked in the interview. On one hand, reviewing these subjects refreshes the subject-related knowledge of the candidate , on the other hand, the confidence of the candidate also increases.
Next we will discuss some such human qualities which are considered very important for personality development and success in interview. Some of these notable qualities are-
·
posture or gesture
·
natural behavior or mannerisms
·
Knowledge of etiquette
·
effective speech or communication skills
·
memory power
·
A broad and open outlook or a positive way of
thinking
·
Politeness
·
Adequate knowledge of the subject

·
seasonal clothing
On the basis of the above mentioned points, you can make your personality impressive by grooming , enhancing and refining it and if your personality is impressive and attractive, then it will be easy for you to get success in the interview. Now the question is that how can the personality be groomed keeping in mind the above mentioned points ? Let us now discuss the above mentioned points for this-
Posture or gesture
During the interview, the posture of the candidate
or his expressions are very important . It means that
during the interview, different types of questions are asked from a candidate , some of which may be of serious nature or sometimes some dilemmatic or confusing
questions may be asked with the aim of testing the mental maturity of the
candidates. Candidates answer some of these questions very easily. While
answering such questions, the candidate's face either has normal expressions or
a sense of calmness. But if the candidate feels some difficulty while answering
questions whose truthfulness he is not sure about , then tension appears on his face. While answering questions which confuse
the candidate, mixed expressions of wrinkles , tension , trouble , fear , frustration
etc. appear on the candidate's face and abnormality is reflected in his
posture. Overall, while answering such questions, the expression of the
candidate gets spoiled and he is not able to keep himself comfortable and
normal or he gets nervous in trying to force himself to be comfortable and
normal and in this nervousness he commits some mistake which can become the
reason of his failure. Therefore, during the interview, every candidate should
keep himself comfortable and normal from the beginning till the end. For this,
care should also be taken so that no mistake is made. It is worth mentioning
that to keep oneself comfortable and normal in the interview, it is very
important that the candidate has a correct estimate of the variety of almost
all types of questions that can be asked in the interview , their level , their comprehensiveness , has the
correct information about their correct answers and he should have also done
some rehearsal for the interview. It should be remembered that those who have
clear knowledge of the correct answers to the questions neither get into
dilemma nor do they have any problem in keeping themselves comfortable in the
interview .
Natural Behavior
Natural behaviour means the behaviour which is expected from a normal person. In other words, it can be said that during the interview, various types of questions can be asked from the candidate, difficult and some questions can be of serious nature or sometimes, some dilemmatic or confusing questions can be asked to test the mental maturity of the candidates. Candidates answer some of these questions very easily . While answering such questions, the candidate's face either has normal expressions or a sense of calmness. But if the candidate feels some difficulty while answering questions whose answers the candidate does not know , then the expression on his face either becomes abnormal or tension appears on his face. While answering questions which confuse the candidate, the wrinkles , tension , trouble , fear on the face of the candidate and the way of speaking etc., while following the rules of discipline without any show-off or excessive formality, comes under normal behaviour.
Knowledge of etiquette
It is essential for every candidate to have knowledge of etiquette. The general meaning of etiquette is - polite or decent conduct or behavior. Etiquette here also means some formalities , which should be followed before the interview , during the interview and after the interview. Following etiquette makes the personality impressive. Before facing the interview, getting your personal details, certificates related to educational qualification etc. checked by the appropriate officer in time , entering the interview room after taking permission when your name is called, greeting the people (interviewers) already present in the room as per the rules as soon as you enter the room , sitting properly at the appropriate place on getting permission , thanking immediately after taking the seat , keeping yourself calm during the interview and answering every question properly , not showing any kind of indecency , getting up from your seat on getting permission and thanking everyone before leaving the room etc. are considered to be actions under etiquette.
Impressive expression or conversation art
A speaker can attract a listener towards himself through his speech ability or conversation skills or effective expression or can influence him to agree with his point or his idea. Hence, it is clear that conversation or expression or dialogue has its own importance in an interview as well. During the interview, the candidate can leave a special mark of his personality and thus can be successful in making his interview a medium of his success. Answering the questions asked during the interview in a clear and relatively fewer words , using the right words at the right place while answering , not making unnecessary comments in the answer , the style of answering being simple and understandable or keeping the answer free from complexity , keeping the facial expressions gentle while answering i.e. not allowing fatigue , trouble or stress to be reflected on the face , keeping the language of the answer simple and keeping the language or expressions away from artificiality etc. can be considered essential elements of effective expression. But to make the expression effective or to achieve excellence (proficiency) in the art of conversation, any candidate must pay attention to the following points - sufficient vocabulary , simple speech and pure language , correct pronunciation , avoiding artificiality in speech , proper knowledge of the subject matter , full self-confidence.
Memory
Although memory is necessary , required and important for every person , but this
quality is of special importance for every candidate preparing for an
interview. Memory refers to that special ability of the human brain due to
which a person remembers a thing , fact or event
etc. and uses it by remembering it when required. In the context of preparing
for an interview and facing it, it is very important to remember certain
points, information, facts, information etc. related to various subjects and fields , so that the candidates can answer the various types of
questions asked by the interviewers as quickly and correctly as possible.
Regular study and practice of various types of related subjects and study
materials is essential to increase and improve memory power. Candidates should keep
trying to remember the things which they are not able to remember or which they
are unable to remember. To remember any study material for a long time, the
most suitable time for regular practice is Brahma Muhurta or early morning , because the environment at that time is very calm , cool and healthy. Those who have a sharp memory , find it very easy to develop their personality and it becomes easy for them
to get success in the interview .
Positive thinking
Positive thinking refers to that feeling or quality inherent in a person , due to which he focuses more on the good aspects of an object , person , event or subject etc. or adopts a broad viewpoint instead of a narrow viewpoint while thinking about it. It is believed that almost every person , object , event , thing or subject has two aspects - one positive or good and the other negative or bad. A person with positive thinking generally focuses on the positive or good aspect of a thing instead of focusing on the negative or bad aspect of a thing or finding faults in its merits and demerits. For example, a person with positive thinking says that half a glass of water is half full of water or half a glass is water , while a person with negative thinking says that half the glass is empty. As far as speaking the truth is concerned, both the persons are speaking the truth but as far as thinking is concerned, the first person's thinking is positive and the second person's thinking is negative. But the question here arises that what difference does negative thinking make in personality development or interview.
In fact, a person's thinking or his attitude towards something has the greatest impact on his personality and philosophy of life . This means that the kind of feeling or attitude a person can have or adopt in a subject is known only from the thinking of that person. So it can also mean that the person is frustrated or discouraged and his attitude towards life can be disappointing and it is very difficult for a person who is himself disappointed or frustrated to achieve success. On the other hand, a person who has a positive thinking or attitude has relatively more zeal , enthusiasm , courage and ambition to achieve something. As a result, such people also have more self-confidence , which helps in the development of their personality and helps in making the path of success easier.
Sometimes during the interview, some questions are
put before the candidates which are related to government decisions , legal provisions , a particular person or institution
etc. or are related to some social , political , economic or
religious disputes and the general candidates often face hesitation or
difficulty in answering them. Many times it also happens that the candidate
does not agree with the question asked , yet it is
necessary for him to answer the question. In such a situation, the candidate should
adopt a positive attitude and give proper
and logical answer to the question asked. < / p>
Humility
Humility is such a special quality of human beings that with its help not only good can be made better but also bad or spoiled can be made good , even the flames of anger can be corrected. Although humility is one of the prescribed etiquettes for humans , but the person who imbibes it, his personality automatically improves and becomes attractive. Any person gets easily impressed by a person of humble nature. This is the reason that humility of the candidate proves to be very useful in getting success in the interview.
Humility generally means that quality or behaviour which seems to be liked by others and brings happiness. Speaking something simply and in a soft language , not behaving stubbornly , angry or resentful with anyone , avoiding strictness in personal behaviour , performing one's duty lovingly , behaving affectionately with everyone , maintaining dignity of relations and decency of words with patience even in adverse circumstances etc. come under humility. On one hand, humility refines the personality of the candidate and makes it attractive , on the other hand, answering the questions asked during the interview politely has a favorable effect on the interviewers , which undoubtedly benefits the candidate and it becomes easy for the candidate to succeed in the interview.
Knowledge of subject and content
It is very important for any candidate facing the interview to have knowledge of both the subject and the subject matter. Here subject knowledge means proper knowledge of various subjects related to the educational background of the candidate. For example- Science , A candidate who has passed Matriculation or Secondary examination or Graduation or Post Graduation examination in the subjects like Arts, Commerce, Engineering, Management etc. should have sufficient knowledge of those subjects .
On the other hand, knowledge of ` subject matter ' means - knowledge of the subject matter of the questions asked during the interview, the related field , its scope , the background of the question and various facts and latest figures related to it, the intention behind asking a question as the candidate is different from the proper and updated information about it , the post for which the candidate is being interviewed , the knowledge of that post and various aspects and responsibilities related to it can also come under the scope of subject matter knowledge. Hence, while preparing to face the interview, the candidates should also keep these points in mind.
Freedom from frustrations
Anyone who wants to succeed in life or wants to
fulfill his ambitions or even any normal person should remain free from
frustrations . Actually frustration is such a mental disorder due to which a
person suffering from superiority complex or inferiority complex either
develops a false impression about himself or becomes a victim of
misunderstanding. A person with such a mindset either sees a problem as very
big or very small , he considers himself to be the most suitable
or capable to do a task or totally unsuitable or incapable. Such a person is
either overconfident or lacks self-confidence. Such a person who lacks
self-confidence more than necessary accepts defeat even before starting any
task. Thus both these situations create obstacles in the path of success. Hence
the candidates facing the interview should be careful that they do not face any
kind of complication . Save yourself
from this and try to understand the reality and take the right decision with
your discretion. It may not be irrelevant to mention here that the information
given above regarding frustration is based on my
personal experience and not on any psychological
theory . It is not our aim here to do any kind of psychological analysis . So please prepare
for the interview without getting into any doubt keeping in mind the objective
of this advice .
Conceptual stability
For proper development of personality and success in interview, ideological stability is essential for the candidate. Ideological stability means that a person's opinion on a subject should be clear and stable. It is said that a person's thoughts and actions make him great. It is very important for a responsible person to have a definite ideology , because a man without thoughts or without knowledge is like an animal.
Quick Decision
A person who has the ability to take quick decisions is able to move ahead with time. For an impressive personality, a person must have the ability to take quick decisions. Candidates can take advantage of this quality during the interview. A candidate who has the ability to take quick decisions performs better in the interview. Sir ! I am sorry , I cannot answer this question or anything like ' I don't know ' . If you are confused, it is better to clearly state that you do n't know the answer to the question. By saying `` please forgive me '' or `` please forgive me , sir '' , you should request or beg to repeat the question. Everyone likes clarity. Therefore, a candidate must have the ability to take quick decisions.
Full of confidence
It is very important for every candidate to have full self-confidence , because self-confidence is essential for taking correct and quick decisions. In the absence of self-confidence, a person often fails to say even those things about which he has full knowledge . Especially in interviews, such mistakes are often made by candidates who lack self-confidence.
Self-confidence means the belief that arises in a person due to proper knowledge of the subject and subject
matter and due to which he has no fear of failure. As a result, the candidate
or the person fearlessly answers any question or does any work. A candidate who
is full of self-confidence does not get scared or nervous when asked any kind
of questions in the examination hall or during the interview , even if he does not know the correct answer to such questions. Being scared
or nervous during the interview proves to be harmful for the candidate. To
develop self-confidence, it is extremely important for the candidate to have
patience , courage , adequate
knowledge of the subject and subject matter. Self-confidence increases by
meeting different types of people , participating
in meetings and seminars , sports and other types of activities or
cultural events etc. Hence, self-confidence also increases by getting rid of
human weaknesses like timidity , shyness , weakness etc. Hence every candidate should develop
self-confidence for proper development of his personality and to get ease in
interview .
Leadership qualities
The personality of a person who has leadership qualities is automatically impressive. The personality of a person having leadership qualities has hypnotic power , which attracts other ordinary people towards him. As far as interviewers are concerned, they usually look for leadership qualities in candidates. The path to success becomes easy for a person who has leadership qualities. To develop leadership qualities , it is essential for the candidate to have qualities like self-confidence , self-control , patience and courage.
Frugality of words
While answering any question, one should also pay attention to the economy of words. The answer to the question should be given in brief, correct and clear words. One should absolutely avoid making the answer cumbersome by unnecessarily exaggerating or embellishing it with useless embellishments or by using hyperbole. If the examiner finds any of your answers incomplete , then you should immediately satisfy the examiner by explaining your answer as required. But in this context, neither should you argue with the examiner nor should you try to create a dispute by getting agitated or in any other way. Even if you are right from your point of view and the examiner is wrong. Sometimes the interviewer takes another question from one question or creates a new question on the basis of the answer given by the candidate and presents it to the candidate. In such a situation, the candidate should be cautious and answer any question very thoughtfully and in few words. Also , the candidate should try to ensure that there is no bias in the answers.
Hence, every candidate should try to develop the above mentioned qualities to the best of his ability for personality development , so that it becomes easier for him to face the interview.
Candidates preparing for the interview should rehearse the interview keeping some things in mind before the actual interview. If the candidate wants, he can take the help of two-three friends, classmates or relatives for this rehearsal. For rehearsal, the candidates should keep the following points in mind-
·
There should not be any feeling of inferiority in
their mind.
·
One should enter the interview room only after
taking permission and inside the interview room, the candidate should not sit
at the designated place (chair) until he is asked to sit.
·
As soon as the candidate enters the interview
room, he should greet the interviewers formally .
·
, courtesy and knowledge in the way of speaking
.
·
There should not be any kind of debate with
the interviewer regarding the questions.
·
Answers to the questions asked should be brief
but precise.
·
Candidates appearing for interview should
study the relevant subjects in depth as per their educational background.
·
Candidates must remain cheerful , fresh and mentally balanced during the entire duration of the interview.
·
The candidate should not get agitated or
disturbed during the interview due to any reason or circumstances , even if an attempt is made to force him to do so.
·
Things to keep in mind while preparing for the
interview-
·
Don't use complex Hindi words, instead use simple
English words.
·
When a board member asks questions in English,
answer them in English as far as possible , so that the
board members are convinced that giving interview in Hindi does not mean that
the candidate does not know how to speak English. The same thing applies to
English medium candidates as well in Hindi.
·
In the interview room, one should sit straight
on the chair and not bend forward. After sitting, keep the right foot slightly
ahead of the left foot. This indicates confidence.
·
The pronunciation should be clear and the
voice should not be loud.
·
If you say something wrong in the interview
and if the board members draw your attention towards your mistake, then you
should immediately accept your mistake, express regret for it and rectify it.
·
You should have detailed knowledge of the
subject or subjects in which you have completed your degree or honours or post
graduation. You should also have a good
grasp on current events .
·
Fill in your hobbies and interests carefully
in the form to be filled before the interview. In this regard, do not follow
others or get influenced by others.
·
If your views do not match with the Board
members on any point or question, or they (interview Board members) want to
prove their point by repeating something repeatedly (especially in questions
related to financial matters), then in such a situation, put forward your views
before the Board with full confidence and as per your discretion and establish
your opinion in accordance with the opinion of the honourable member of the
Board or try to find a middle path by adopting a flexible approach.
· Make sure to read the newspaper on the morning of the interview.
Choice of clothing or apparel
To get the desired success in any type or any level of interview, it is very important that the personality of the candidate is attractive and impressive. The personality test is used to check whether the person or the candidate has the educational qualification as well as other qualities for appointment to the post for which the candidate is selected through interview. Some useful information is being given regarding a very important aspect of personality development - clothes or attire or attire.
Candidates should keep the following things in mind while selecting clothes for attending the interview-
·
Clothes should be appropriate for the weather.
·
The clothes should be stitched keeping in mind
the physique and height of the candidate.
·
The colour of the clothes should be
appropriate for the body and the occasion.
There is a popular saying in English - ` Simple living high thinking ' i.e. ` Simple living high thinking ' ` Simple living means simple food , simple dress , ideal conduct etc. In the interview also, simplicity is generally expected from the candidates in terms of dress or attire. Therefore , the candidates should choose as simple clothes as possible for wearing on the occasion of the interview. Here, simple clothes do not mean bright or colorless or haphazard (crumbled , unironed) clothes. Here we mean that the clothes should not be heavy , flashy or fancy , but should be normal , simple and beautiful. It is worth mentioning that clean and well stitched clothes help in enhancing the personality. '
Dress is very important for the candidates who are going to appear for the interview. But some people still have a misconception that to face the interview one should wear new or expensive clothes. But such a notion is completely wrong , because neither the interviewer expects any candidate to appear for the interview wearing new or expensive clothes, nor is the financial condition of all the candidates such that they can get new or expensive clothes stitched and wear them on such occasions. Secondly , candidates also face some practical inconveniences when they appear for the interview wearing newly stitched clothes , because generally the candidate does not feel comfortable in new clothes. As a result, during the interview, the attention of the candidate is often inadvertently attracted towards his own clothes, due to which his concentration is disturbed during the interview, and ultimately the candidate has to bear the loss. Therefore, the candidate should be very careful in the selection of clothes.
Dress for Female Candidates
The entire attire plays an important role in
enhancing the personality. But it is better not to wear something which does
not suit or does not work rather than wearing it forcibly. Especially for a
specific purpose and occasion like an interview, observation , inspection and
analysis of the appropriate attire is as important
as that of women's attire. However, the fact cannot be denied that women's
attire is more and more quickly affected by the latest changes in the design of
clothes etc. at the provincial , national and international level and the weather than men 's attire. It means
that due to changes in country , time , weather , fashion etc., women 's attire has as much
variety or change or fluctuation as men's attire. Although nowadays women candidates
also use salwar-kameez , Punjabi suit , jeans
pant and T-shirt on the occasion of interview. But still , the main attire of Indian women is
considered to be sari-blouse. Yes , there can be
differences in the design of the saree or the way of wearing it from place to
place , like , different types of
sarees can be worn according to Gujarati , Marathi , Tamil or Bengali traditions. But the saree is selected keeping in
mind the occasion , like, on special festivals, colourful , expensive zari-Banarasi sarees are worn , in parties
etc., brightly coloured and quality sarees are worn , whereas on occasions expressing grief or condolence, plain , white or black sarees are worn. But , as far as the
choice of dress of women is concerned from the point of view of interview , it is expected to keep some limitations in mind in this regard .
In an interview, it is important that the person's external appearance is impressive and the dress plays the biggest role in making the person's external appearance impressive. The occasion of an interview is formal, hence restraint is required in the selection of dress for this occasion. Whether the candidate is a woman or a man, the combination of his/her overall attire should be such that it contributes in showing his/her farsighted , responsibilities-conscious , mature , efficient and fully developed personality. Some useful information regarding the precautions to be taken in the context of the overall attire selection is being given below.
It is worth noting that for Indian female candidates appearing for interview, saree is the most appropriate and dignified dress for the occasion. However , before wearing any dress, female candidates must keep in mind the following important points-
·
The blouse should have sleeves and a less deep
neck , that is, the blouse should not be sleeveless
or have a low-cut neck.
·
Clothing should be such that it does not
expose the body parts , that is, the clothing should not display any
kind of obscenity or vulgarity in any form.
·
Efforts should be made to make the personality
look attractive and impressive i.e. smart as a result of the combination of the
entire dress. If the physique or physical beauty is
shown in a dignified manner, then the personality becomes more attractive.
Hence , the entire combination of clothes should be dignified.
·
The dress combination of the candidate should
be such that it creates self-confidence in him.
·
The clothes of the candidate should not be
such (strange, awkward , unnatural or uncomfortable) that he becomes
self-conscious and is unable to display his abilities properly , i.e. the clothes or garment should neither be too tight nor too loose and it
should neither be too gaudy nor stitched in the wrong manner , because due to such uncomfortable clothes, the candidate generally becomes
so self-conscious that even during the interview he keeps on fixing his clothes
, hair etc. by holding or pulling them from here
or there.
·
It is important to maintain decorum in
clothing and hair styles ; hence excessive decoration is not appropriate.
·
women appearing for an interview, light
make-up is appropriate.
·
Shoes or slippers should be clean and
polished.
·
Shoes or slippers should be worn at a heel
that is suitable for the body and clothes, i.e. they should suit the body and
should neither make too much noise nor distort the gait of the candidate.
·
If it is cold weather and the candidate is
wearing a coat or cardigan, then its buttons should be properly fastened.
·
Jewellery should generally be avoided during
an interview. A watch , one or two bangles , a light chain and small flowers in the ears are sufficient for wearing on
this occasion.
·
To keep the mind fresh, perfumes with very
mild fragrance can be used carefully , but perfumes
with strong fragrance should not be used at all.
·
Hair should be clean and neatly styled and
tied , but unnecessary attention-attracting cosmetics
like braids , garlands ,
flowers etc. should not be used in the hair.
·
Hair should not be open or scattered and should
not fall on the face or eyes.
·
Neither should any button of the clothes be
broken nor should anything on the body be torn or patched or
visible.
·
There should not be anything in your overall
attire that may hinder your ability to speak or express your feelings properly
during the interview .
It is essential to pay attention to the above mentioned small things , because ignoring these points makes the candidates appear careless, irresponsible, lazy or sluggish in front of the interviewer , whose bad effect has to be borne by the candidate undoubtedly. By wearing clothes properly, the candidates can successfully demonstrate their freshness and readiness and being agile and nimble. Chewing gum , paan , betel nut, gutka , cardamom , cloves etc. should not be put in the mouth during the interview nor should they be kept in the mouth beforehand . Excessive items like umbrella , purse , book , magazine , newspaper, goggles etc. should not be brought at the time of interview.
Hairstyles for Interview
Before entering the interview room, the candidate should check whether his hair is untidy or not , i.e. whether it is combed or not. One should comb his hair properly before appearing for the interview , for this, if necessary, a pocket comb can also be kept with him. Female candidates should keep a small comb in their purse , so that just before the interview, they can comb the hair on their face or scattered here and there properly.
Male candidates should get their hair trimmed and set a few days before the interview , because hair trimmed just a day or two before the interview does not ' set ' or ' suit ' the face properly , i.e. the face appears odd or unusual at first glance. Hence, as far as possible, getting the hair trimmed just before the interview should be avoided. But on the day of the interview, male candidates must shave properly.
If a candidate belonging to a particular religion wears a cap or turban on his head, he should take special care that his cap or turban is clean and in accordance with his character or attire, i.e. it matches his attire.
Facial expressions
Generally, the face is called the index of the brain. Generally, interviewers are adept at reading the face of a candidate or understanding a lot from the expressions expressed on his face. Interviewers are also adept at distinguishing between a natural smile on the face of the candidate or an artificial smile forcibly pasted on the face. Usually , they are so experienced that they easily understand the meaning and intentions hidden in the rapidly changing expressions on the face of the candidate. Therefore, candidates should keep their facial expressions controlled and balanced from the time of seeking permission to enter the interview room till coming out of the interview room after the end of the interview.
An attractive smile should be visible on the face
of the candidate while asking ` May I come in ?' to obtain permission to enter the interview room , but there should not be any trace of artificiality in that smile . Also , this smile should be maintained while greeting the members of the interview
board including the chairman and even after that. This smile is indicative of
the self-confidence and calmness of the candidate , which helps in establishing quick rapport between the candidate and the
interview board. It is worth mentioning that a tense and serious face makes the
atmosphere cumbersome , stressful and boring for both the
candidate and the interviewer , whereas a ready , charming and
natural smile leaves a favorable impression on the interviewers . However , it should be kept in mind that once the interview starts and especially
when the interviewer becomes serious about the interview process, instead of
unnecessarily keeping a smile on his face, the candidate should make his facial
expression natural , normal and changeable according to the nature
of the questions asked and their answers , because if the
facial expression does not change according to the situation and a useless
smile prevails on the face, then it does not take long for the interviewer to
understand the truth and in such a situation, sometimes the candidate is even
considered a fool. Therefore, the facial expressions of the candidate should
remain balanced during the entire interview .
