Physiotherapists Can Now Use "Doctor" Title from April 23
Starting April 23, physiotherapists in India will be able to use the title "Doctor" before their names. This decision has brought significant relief and recognition to physiotherapy professionals across the country.
Recently, the Madhya Pradesh government acknowledged in the state assembly that physiotherapists are legally recognized as doctors. This recognition is based on the National Commission for Healthcare and Allied Professions Act 2021, which is approved by the central government.
The act also grants physiotherapists the right to practice independently. Physiotherapy is a vital part of the medical field that aids patients without the need for medication or surgery. It is particularly effective in treating problems related to the spine, nerves, joints, and muscles.
Physiotherapists play a crucial role, not just in the sports industry but also in general healthcare. They have been striving for years to gain due recognition and rights, aiming for their expertise to be acknowledged with the title "Doctor."
Dr. Siddhant Joshi, a physiotherapist and administrator at Amrit Kaur Hospital, shared that this change will empower physiotherapists to practice independently and be addressed with the same respect as other medical professionals.
