UGC's New System to Resolve Student Issues in 20 Days
The University Grants Commission (UGC) has provided relief to students studying at universities and other higher educational institutions across the country. UGC has launched a new system that will ensure resolution of student issues within 20 days, including problems related to fees, courses, admission policies, scholarships, and more. The UGC has also started a toll-free helpline and an e-solution portal for easier complaint submission and quick resolution.
Students no longer need to wait long or wander for solutions to their problems. Whether it's related to fee refunds, courses, or scholarships, UGC guarantees resolution within 20 days. This initiative covers both government and private universities and colleges. The timing of this move is crucial, as the new academic session is about to begin at many higher educational institutions.
e-Solution Portal and Helpline
UGC has introduced an e-solution portal where students can file complaints online. Upon receiving a complaint, it will be immediately forwarded to the concerned university or college, which will be required to provide a satisfactory response within the specified time. UGC will monitor all complaints, and if any institution delays its response, action will be taken, including revocation of accreditation or financial support.
One of the key areas UGC has focused on is fee refunds. In the past, students, especially at private universities, faced difficulties in getting their fees refunded. Thanks to UGC's efforts over the past three years, nearly INR 25 crore has been refunded to students. UGC has also promised to resolve complaints related to teaching and non-teaching staff within 15 days, and university-related issues will be resolved within 20 days.
Additionally, UGC aims to address issues of ragging and discrimination based on caste and gender in educational institutions. A 24/7 helpline number has been set up – 1800-180-5522 – for students to seek assistance on ragging-related cases.
