Mizoram Becomes India's First Fully Literate State

Mizoram, a northeastern state in India, has become the country's first fully literate state. The Ministry of Education has awarded the state a certificate for achieving this significant milestone under the 'Ullas Literacy Mission.'

Achieving the Literacy Milestone

On May 20, the central Ministry of Education announced that Mizoram had achieved 97% literacy, making it the first state in India to be officially declared fully literate. This was made possible through the Ullas Literacy Mission, which aimed to bring literacy to the population, helping the state to achieve its goal.

Mission Ullas: A Step Towards Full Literacy

The Ullas Literacy Mission, which was a government initiative to improve literacy rates, played a crucial role in Mizoram's success. With the help of this mission, Mizoram reached the required literacy rate of 97%, earning the title of the first fully literate state in India.

Previous Milestones: Ladakh's Achievement

Before Mizoram, the Union Territory of Ladakh had also achieved the full literacy target in 2024. However, Mizoram now leads the nation as the first state to achieve this remarkable feat.

Population and Growth

According to the 2011 census, Mizoram's population stood at 1.98 million. With this achievement, the state not only leads in literacy but also sets a benchmark for others to follow in the mission to make India fully literate.
