Youth will no longer have to wander for employment after studies. In the coming days, universities will make apprenticeship compulsory along with graduation. Which will be of minimum one and maximum two semesters for a three-year graduation course. Whereas for a four-year graduation course, it will be of minimum two and maximum four semesters. During this time, they will also be given a fixed stipend under the rules. There will also be an agreement between higher education institutions and industries regarding this. In this, industries will have to provide apprenticeship opportunities to a fixed number of students in a year under the prescribed rules. Finding a solution to the growing employment crisis facing the youth, the University Grants Commission (UGC) has prepared a draft of a new degree program with apprenticeship. This includes making apprenticeship compulsory for students along with graduation studies. Currently, as per the draft, this program will be started from the top two hundred higher education institutions of the country (as per NIRF ranking) or the institutions with 'A' ranking of National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC). However, before this, all these higher institutions will have to enter into an agreement with the industries around them. In this, they will have to give priority to the students studying in the institutions for apprenticeship. Opinion can be given on this draft within the next month. According to UGC, students will also be given credit scores for the apprenticeship done along with studies. On the basis of this, they can easily get employment in those fields on the basis of their experience after studies. According to the draft, students will get at least 20 credit scores for doing an apprenticeship of one semester i.e. six months. If the apprenticeship is done for one year i.e. two semesters, then they will get 40 credit scores. Under the credit framework, at least 30 hours of training will be mandatory for one credit. Along with studies, the apprenticeship period will also be evaluated by the higher education institutions. This will be mentioned in the certificate given to them. Anyway, according to the formula prepared by UGC for evaluation of apprenticeship, out of the total marks, 25 marks will be evaluated by the institute or industry where the student is doing apprenticeship. After this, 25 marks will be given by the mentor appointed by the institute, under whose supervision he will be doing apprenticeship. The rest of the marks will be given by the institute on the basis of project etc. Meaningful step University Grants Commission released the draft of new degree program with apprenticeship, sought opinion, will start from the top higher education institutions of the country, agreement will be made with industries, will be applicable in both degree courses, maximum duration will be four semesters.
