Scholarship to be Named After Astronaut Shubhanshu Shukla by Yogi Government
Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has announced a scholarship in the name of astronaut Shubhanshu Shukla. The scholarship will support students pursuing higher education in space technology and space science. The announcement was made during a civic felicitation ceremony in Lucknow where Shubhanshu was honored for his accomplishments in space exploration.
Shubhanshu Honored in Lucknow
On August 25, at Lok Bhawan, the Chief Minister presented a statue of Lord Shri Ram and a ceremonial stole to Shubhanshu Shukla, calling him the first astronaut from Uttar Pradesh. CM Yogi expressed pride in his achievements, stating that Shubhanshu’s journey showcases India's growing space power and will inspire future generations.
India's Space Journey After Four Decades
The CM noted that India embarked on its space journey after a gap of four decades, and every citizen followed Shubhanshu’s mission with hope. In 18 days, Shubhanshu orbited the Earth more than 300 times. Yogi Adityanath added, “While many people never fully explore their city, this son of Lucknow has traveled around the Earth multiple times — a truly remarkable feat.”
Linking Success to India’s Scientific Legacy
Yogi emphasized that this achievement is not just modern but rooted in India’s deep scientific traditions. He said that Shubhanshu’s experience will play a crucial role in guiding the 2027 space mission, serving as a source of motivation and mentorship.
Expansion of Space Science Education in UP
CM Yogi highlighted that previously, space science programs were rare, but today, several technical universities in Uttar Pradesh have launched degree programs in space science and technology. This progress will guide youth toward a new era of scientific advancement.
Leaders Laud Shubhanshu’s Achievement
Deputy Chief Ministers Keshav Prasad Maurya and Brajesh Pathak also praised Shubhanshu’s achievement. ISRO Chairman V. Narayanan emphasized the crucial role space missions will play in making India a developed nation by 2047. He noted India’s swift progress with satellite launches powered by indigenous technology and acknowledged Uttar Pradesh’s role in Shubhanshu’s success.

Science and Technology Minister Anil Kumar, in his welcome address, stated that Shubhanshu’s flight would propel India to new heights. The ceremony also included the felicitation of Shubhanshu’s family members for their support and contribution.
