West Bengal Governor Renames Raj Bhavan as 'Lok Bhavan'

West Bengal Governor C.V. Anand Bose has renamed the Raj Bhavan in Kolkata as 'Lok Bhavan'. This decision has drawn wide attention. Recently, he visited the Bangladesh border and traveled by train like a common citizen. He also met candidates at a school on a teacher's request.

On Saturday, Governor Bose implemented a central government directive by renaming Kolkata Raj Bhavan as 'Lok Bhavan'. With this, Kolkata Raj Bhavan became the first Raj Bhavan in India to implement the central instruction immediately. The official notification stated that the names of Raj Bhavans in Kolkata, Barrackpur (Flagstaff House), and Darjeeling were changed to 'Lok Bhavan'. This order is effective immediately.

A few hours later, the governor replaced the old nameplate with a new 'Lok Bhavan' plate in a formal ceremony. The building, now Lok Bhavan, serves as the governor's official residence and office.

The central government has instructed all Raj Bhavans across India to be renamed. The initiative aims to make governance more accessible to the public and to promote transparency and citizen-centered governance.

Earlier in November 2022, Governor Bose had converted Kolkata Raj Bhavan into 'Jan Raj Bhavan' to bring it closer to the people. Over the past three years, it has implemented numerous welfare programs and assisted citizens during crises, emphasizing public participation and support.
