Vacant Positions in Agricultural Education to be Filled Soon
On October 28, 2025, in New Delhi, Shivraj Singh Chouhan, Union Minister for Agriculture, Farmer Welfare and Rural Development, expressed serious concern over the large number of vacant positions in agricultural educational institutions across the country.
Addressing the National Agricultural Student Conference at the Pusa Campus, he instructed the Director General of ICAR to immediately fill all vacant positions to ensure high-quality agricultural education.
He mentioned that letters will be sent to all state Chief Ministers urging state governments to expedite the process of filling vacant positions in their agricultural universities and colleges. He emphasized, "There can be no compromise on the future of agricultural students. Every institution must have qualified teachers and adequate staff to maintain the quality of education."
Chouhan also called for the development of a grading system for agricultural universities and colleges to encourage healthy competition. He stressed the importance of studying global best practices in agricultural education and adapting them to Indian conditions.
The conference was jointly organized by the Education Division of ICAR and the Indian Agricultural Research Institute (IARI).
