Justice Bhushan Gavai Appointed as Next Chief Justice of India

Justice Bhushan Ramkrishna Gavai has been appointed as the next Chief Justice of India. He will assume office on May 14, following the retirement of the current Chief Justice, Sanjiv Khanna, whose term ends on May 13.

The Ministry of Law and Justice issued an official notification on April 29 announcing Justice Gavai's appointment as the 52nd Chief Justice of India. His tenure will last for six months, as he is set to retire upon reaching the age of 65 on December 23.

Justice Gavai is currently the senior-most judge in the Supreme Court after CJI Khanna. His appointment marks a significant moment in the Indian judiciary.
