US Lifts Sanctions on Indian Nuclear Institutions
The United States has lifted sanctions imposed on three Indian institutions. President Joe Biden made this announcement just days before the end of his tenure. The sanctions on Indian Rare Earths, the Indira Gandhi Centre for Atomic Research (IGCAR), and the Bhabha Atomic Research Centre (BARC) have been removed.
This major decision was made by US President Joe Biden, who ordered the removal of sanctions on three Indian institutions – Indian Rare Earths, Indira Gandhi Centre for Atomic Research (IGCAR), and Bhabha Atomic Research Centre (BARC). Biden made this decision before handing over power to Donald Trump.
According to the US Department of Commerce’s Bureau of Industry and Security, these sanctions were imposed during the Cold War era. With the lifting of these sanctions following Biden's announcement, it will remove barriers to advanced energy cooperation, joint research and development, and science and technology collaboration, benefiting US foreign policy and its goals in energy security.
