The Ujjain Simhastha 2028 is scheduled to be a two-month-long religious festival from March 27 to May 27, 2028. During this period, three royal baths and seven festival baths are planned between April 9 and May 8, 2028. The Madhya Pradesh government estimates that over 14 crore devotees will participate in this grand event.
Chief Minister Dr. Mohan Yadav has directed the development of the Ujjain-Indore division as a religious and spiritual circuit, incorporating sacred sites such as Pashupatinath in Mandsaur, Khadwa's Dada Dhuniwale, Bhadvamata, Nalkheda, and Omkareshwar. This initiative aims to enhance the spiritual experience for devotees visiting the region during the Simhastha festival.
The state government has allocated ₹500 crore for the fiscal year 2024-25 to initiate critical infrastructure projects in Ujjain. These include the construction of a 29-kilometer-long pathway along the banks of the Shipra River and the development of ghats to accommodate the expected influx of devotees. Additionally, the Kshipra River purification project, known as the Kanh-Close Duct project, is underway with an investment of ₹599 crore to ensure the river's sanctity during the festival.
To manage the anticipated crowd, the administration is focusing on expanding internal roads, constructing flyovers at critical crossings, and enhancing parking facilities. The development of a ring road around the Simhastha area is also planned to facilitate smooth transportation and crowd management.
In preparation for the event, the government is facilitating the construction of permanent ashrams for the 13 akharas and other sadhus and sanyasis, similar to the arrangements in Haridwar. These ashrams will be equipped with necessary amenities, including roads, sewage systems, drinking water, and power supply, to accommodate the large number of devotees expected during the Simhastha festival.
