UGC Asha Scholarship 2025 – Financial Support for Economically Weaker Meritorious Students
The UGC Asha Scholarship Program 2025 has been launched to support economically weaker but meritorious students across India. Under this scheme, 23,230 students will receive financial assistance ranging from ₹15,000 to ₹20 lakh per year depending on the level of education. The scholarship covers both school and higher education students.
Objective of the Program
The main objective of this initiative is to help students who may have to discontinue their education due to financial constraints. The University Grants Commission (UGC) has instructed all universities and colleges to spread awareness of this scholarship widely to ensure no deserving student misses the opportunity.
Partnership with SBI Foundation
The UGC has partnered with State Bank of India (SBI) to launch this scholarship scheme in honor of SBI’s Platinum Jubilee. Out of the total 23,230 beneficiaries, 20,000 students will be from school levels (Class 9–12), and 3,230 students will be from leading higher education institutions.
Fund Allocation
The SBI Foundation has allocated approximately ₹90 crore for this scholarship program. Students can apply online at sbiashascholarship.co.in.
Eligibility Criteria
- The applicant must be an Indian citizen.
- Minimum 75% marks or 7.0 CGPA in the previous class is required.
- For school students, the family’s annual income should be ₹3 lakh or below.
- For college/university students, the family’s annual income should not exceed ₹6 lakh.
