Recently, Musk and Indian-American tech entrepreneur Vivek Ramaswamy clashed with supporters of President-elect Donald Trump over the polarizing issue of immigration. Musk, who himself arrived on an H-1B visa from South Africa, posted on the social media platform X, stating that the H-1B program is broken and needs substantial reform.
What Did Elon Musk Say?
Trump was responding to a user who stated that the U.S. should become a destination for the world's most talented individuals, but the H-1B program is not the way to achieve this. Musk responded that this issue could be easily addressed by raising the minimum wage and adding an annual cost to maintain the H-1B program, making it more expensive to hire foreign workers than domestic ones. Last week, Musk stated that bringing in foreign engineering talent is essential for the U.S. to remain competitive.
Vivek Ramaswamy also echoed Musk's views. He argued that American culture has long celebrated mediocrity. He posted on X, saying, "A culture that celebrates prom queens instead of math Olympiad champions will not produce the best engineers."
