US President Donald Trump has signaled progress towards a trade deal with India. He also suggested reducing tariffs imposed on India, saying that while India may not like him now, they will come to appreciate him.

On November 11, Trump hinted at a trade deal nearing completion. He made these comments during the oath-taking ceremony of Sergio as India’s ambassador. Trump emphasized the uniqueness of the trade deal, stating: "They may not like me now, but they will like us again. We are getting a fair deal."
High Tariffs Due to Russian Oil
Trump explained that tariffs on India were high because of Russian oil, which India had stopped trading. He said: "Significant reductions have already been made. Yes, we will reduce tariffs, eventually we will lower them."
Strong Relations with PM Modi
Trump highlighted his excellent relationship with Prime Minister Modi, adding that Sergio has strengthened the ties further. As ambassador, Sergio will help enhance US-India relations, promote investment in American industries and technologies, increase US energy exports, and expand security cooperation.
