Trump Criticizes Returning Students, Announces Trump Gold Card
US President Donald Trump has said that it is "shameful" for students from countries like India and China to return to their home countries after completing their graduation from top universities in the United States. Trump claimed that the 'Trump Gold Card' scheme would enable companies to hire and retain such talented individuals in the country.
On December 10, Trump announced the launch of the $1 million "Trump Gold Card" scheme, a visa program that will provide immigrants with a pathway to US citizenship. The 'Trump Gold Card' is a type of visa based on a person's ability to provide significant benefits to the US.
In a meeting at the White House, Trump said that the arrival of such exceptional individuals in the US is like a "gift" for the country, as they are individuals who should be allowed to stay in the US. He further stated, "After graduating from college, they have to go back to India, go back to China, go back to France. They have to return to where they came from. It is very difficult for them to stay. It's shameful. It's absurd. We are addressing this."
Trump announced that the Gold Card website has been launched, and companies can purchase Gold Cards to retain top students from renowned US universities like Wharton, Harvard, and MIT in the country. The event was attended by IBM’s Indian-American CEO Arvind Krishna and Michael Dell, CEO of Dell Technologies.
