Trump Administration Halts U.S. Aid to Bangladesh

The Yunus government in Bangladesh is focused on retaliatory actions against the former Prime Minister of Bangladesh and improving ties with Pakistan. Meanwhile, foreign institutional investors, including the United States, are increasingly distancing themselves from Bangladesh. The Trump administration has issued a stop-work order to halt all forms of aid being provided to Bangladesh. Following President Donald Trump’s orders, USAID has suspended all relief activities in Bangladesh. Notably, Bangladesh has been the second-largest recipient of U.S. aid in South Asia after Afghanistan. Over a dozen relief and development programs in Bangladesh were funded by U.S. aid. This aid has now been suspended for a period of 90 days.

However, the Trump administration's order also specifies that the U.S. will review approximately $72 billion in foreign aid provided to countries worldwide. The review will assess whether the aid aligns with U.S. values and interests, and any aid deemed incompatible will be permanently halted.
