The first National Space Day was celebrated on 23 August.

National Space Day is celebrated for the first time on 23 August 2024. Chandrayaan-3 mission was India's third lunar mission, launched by the Indian Space Research Organization (ISRO) on 14 July 2023. The mission aimed to successfully soft land in the south polar region of the Moon. With Vikram Lander and Pragyan Rover, this mission created history by successfully landing on the Moon on 23 August 2023, making India the fourth country in the world to have soft landed on the Moon.

First country to reach the south pole of the Moon

For India, 23 August is an important day in the country's space journey, which is being celebrated for the first time after the historic success of the Chandrayaan-3 mission. India's space journey is not new, ISRO has made many major space missions successful before this. On 23 August 2023, India will achieve the distinction of becoming the fourth country to successfully land on the Moon and also the first to land near the South Pole. 23 August has been officially declared as National Space Day to commemorate the historic success of the Chandrayaan-3 mission, symbolizing India's growing space capabilities.
