After a long wait, Tesla has officially entered the Indian market. On July 15, the company opened its first showroom in Mumbai’s Bandra Kurla Complex (BKC) and launched its first electric car – the Model Y.
Founded by the world’s richest man Elon Musk, Tesla is bringing its globally popular electric car, the Model Y, to India. The base variant of the car is priced at ₹59.89 lakh (ex-showroom).
The brand’s first showroom in India is located in Mumbai’s BKC area. The Model Y will be available in two variants: Rear-Wheel Drive (RWD) and Long Range RWD. The top-end Long Range variant is priced at ₹67.89 lakh (ex-showroom).
Currently, the car can be booked for just ₹22,220. However, this amount is non-refundable. To confirm the booking, an additional payment of ₹3 lakh must be made within 7 days of the initial booking.
At launch, Tesla is not offering Full Self-Driving (FSD) capability with the car. Customers who want to add this feature will need to pay ₹6 lakh extra. Tesla's website also notes that while certain autonomous features are included, the driver must remain attentive while driving.
The car will also receive over-the-air updates via the internet to improve and enhance the driving experience and features over time.
