The Department of Telecommunications, Ministry of Communications, Government of India vide Notification No. G.S.R. 530 (E), dated 20 August 2024, published the first set of rules of the Telecommunications Act, 2023 (44 of 2023) titled as the Telecommunications (Management of Digital India Fund) Rules, 2024 in the Gazette of India. The draft rules were published on 4 July 2024 and suggestions were sought from the public within 30 days. The Universal Service Obligation Fund created under the Indian Telegraph Act, 1885 has now been renamed as the Digital India Fund under Section 24(1) of the Telecommunications Act, 2024. It now focuses on new areas that may need support from the Digital India Fund in this era of changing technology. This will strengthen the mission of becoming a developed India by 2047.
