Swachh Survekshan 2024-25 Results Announced: Over 4500 Cities Participated
On July 17, 2024, the results of the Swachh Survekshan 2024-25 were announced at the Vigyan Bhawan in New Delhi. Once again, Indore topped the cleanliness rankings, surpassing Surat and Navi Mumbai. Surat claimed the second position, while Navi Mumbai remained in third place. The award ceremony was held under the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs (MOHUA), with the presence of Union Minister Shri Manohar Lal and Minister of State for Housing and Urban Affairs, Shri Tokhan Sahu. President Droupadi Murmu presented the awards at the ceremony.
Survey Overview
In the 2024-25 survey, more than 4500 cities were evaluated based on 10 parameters and 54 indicators. The survey aimed to assess urban cleanliness and waste management practices across Indian cities.

Top Cities in Five Population Categories:
- 50,000 – 3 Lakh Population: Devas, Karhad, Karnal
- 3 – 10 Lakh Population: Mira Bhayandar, Bilaspur, Jamshedpur
- More than 10 Lakh Population: Ahmedabad, Bhopal, Lucknow

Survey Highlights
The theme of this year's survey was “Reduce, Reuse, Recycle.” More than 3000 workers conducted evaluations across different wards in the country, completing the task in 45 days. The survey aimed to understand urban cleanliness and sanitation from a national perspective. Over 11 lakh families were evaluated, and 14 crore citizens participated through face-to-face interactions, cleanliness apps, and social media feedback, reflecting the high public engagement in the cleanliness initiative.
Super Clean League (SSL)
A new category, the Super Clean League (SSL), was introduced this year. This category includes cities that have ranked in the top three at least once in the past three years and are in the top 20% of their population category this year. The aim of SSL is to inspire cities to improve further and motivate others to achieve similar results.
Swachh Survekshan 2024-25 is an important part of the Swachh Bharat Mission Urban, which has been contributing to making urban India cleaner for the past nine years. The survey started in 2016 with just 73 cities and has expanded to include over 4500 cities in 2024.
