The list of safest cities for women in 2024 has been released, with Bengaluru topping the chart. Chennai and Mumbai have also performed well, but Delhi and Pune's rankings are concerning.
Bengaluru: The Safest City for Working Women
According to the 2024 report, Bengaluru is the safest city for working women in India, surpassing Chennai for the top spot. This city offers an inclusive, safe, and adaptable environment for professional women. Chennai ranks second on the list of safest cities, with Mumbai in third place, and Delhi in eighth. Southern cities have shown better performance in terms of gender-inclusive societies at the highest level. A survey of 25 cities in this region was conducted by the workplace culture consulting firm 'Avatar Group' under the ‘Top Cities for Women in India’ initiative. 16 of these cities are from South India.
Changes in Safety Rankings
In terms of safety, Mumbai and Hyderabad ranked at the top. Among the emerging smaller urban centers, Thiruvananthapuram performed exceptionally well. Gurugram recorded the lowest ratings. In the metropolitan cities, Hyderabad and Bengaluru showed the best infrastructure for care-related facilities, while Gurugram and Coimbatore excelled in providing extraordinary support systems for dependents. Hyderabad emerged as the top city with high basic facilities ratings, while Mumbai secured second place.
