Sourav Ganguly Returns as CAB President – Focus on Eden Gardens Expansion and T20 World Cup Matches

Former Indian cricket captain Sourav Ganguly made a comeback as the President of the Cricket Association of Bengal (CAB) after a six-year gap. He was elected unopposed during the 94th Annual General Meeting of the CAB held on September 22.

One of Ganguly’s top priorities is to increase Eden Gardens’ seating capacity to nearly 100,000 and to secure key matches of the ICC T20 World Cup 2026 for the iconic stadium. Ganguly had earlier served as CAB President from 2015 to 2019.

He also promised to ensure the smooth return of Test cricket to Eden Gardens when India hosts South Africa on November 14 as part of the World Test Championship schedule.

Ganguly, now 53 years old, also served as the President of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) from 2019 to 2022. In his return to CAB, he replaces his elder brother Snehashish Ganguly, who stepped down after completing his six-year term.
