The central government has given Navratna status to 4 government companies. The Department of Public Enterprises (DPE) of the Ministry of Finance has given 'Navratna' status to RailTel Corporation of India Limited (RailTel), National Hydroelectric Power Corporation (NHPC), Solar Energy Corporation of India (SECI) and Satluj Jal Vidyut Nigam Limited (SJVN). Till now these companies were working under the Mini Ratna category. After getting the Navratna status, the company will be able to work with more operational freedom. To become a Navratna company, the PSU must first be a Miniratna company. Apart from this, it will also have to register a net profit of Rs 5 thousand crore for 3 consecutive years and maintain an average annual turnover of more than Rs 25 thousand crore for 3 years, or have an average annual net worth of more than Rs 15 thousand crore for 3 years.
