Sihnsth Land Pooling Scheme Cancelled Due to Farmers' Pressure

Farmers Oppose Land Pooling Act

The government initially attempted to pool farmers' land with their consent, but the Indian Farmers Union opposed the plan. They argued that acquiring land for permanent construction for the Sihnsth event would endanger their livelihoods.

Government Cancels the Act

After strong protests, the state government officially cancelled the Sihnsth Land Pooling Act. On November 17, a meeting at the Chief Minister's residence with the Indian Farmers Union, BJP, and other representatives was held, where Chief Minister Mohan Yadav announced that the act would be repealed in respect of farmers' sentiments.

Temporary Land Acquisition for 2028 Sihnsth

Farmers demanded the complete cancellation of the act, meaning land would now be acquired temporarily as before, not for permanent construction. Considering the large number of pilgrims expected for the 2028 Sihnsth in Ujjain, land will be acquired temporarily and farmers will be compensated as per regulations.

Leadership Involvement

The matter escalated to the top leadership. Meetings were held with BJP officials, local representatives, and district administration. The Chief Minister returned from Delhi and on November 17 discussed with the Indian Farmers Union, BJP leaders, and Ujjain officials about organizing the Sihnsth event in a grand, safe, and world-class manner while protecting the interests of saints, devotees, and farmers.

Details of Land and Proposed Plan

Ujjain Sihnsth area includes approximately 2,800 hectares, of which 850 hectares are government land and the rest is private. The government had planned to acquire land for permanent public facilities to accommodate large numbers of pilgrims, providing alternative land and market-value compensation to affected farmers. With the act cancelled, such permanent construction plans are on hold.

Leaders Present at the Meeting

Present at the meeting were BJP state president Hemant Khandelwal, MLA Anil Jain Kaluheda, Farmers Union state president Kamal Singh Anjana, Mahesh Chaudhary, BJP city president Sanjay Agarwal, district secretary Kamlesh Bairwa, general secretary Jagdish Panchal, Anand Khinchi, and other officials. The Farmers Union welcomed the Chief Minister’s decision and expressed their gratitude.
