Shubman Gill Named ICC Best Player for July 2025
Indian Test team captain Shubman Gill was named the ICC’s Best Male Player for the month of July. Gill delivered a strong performance during the recent England tour, outshining England’s Test captain Ben Stokes and South Africa’s all-rounder Wiaan Mulder in the race for the award.
The 25-year-old batsman scored 567 runs in three Test matches in July, averaging 94.50, including a double century. In the women's category, England's batter Sophia Dunkley won the award.
Gill has won the ICC Player of the Month award for the fourth time, the most by any male player. Previously, he won it in January 2023, September 2023, and February 2025. This was Gill’s first tour as India’s Test captain.
“Being named ICC's Best Male Player for July feels great. This award is especially significant as it comes for my performance during my first Test series as captain. The double century at Birmingham is definitely something I will cherish forever and it was one of the highlights of my England tour,” said Gill.
He added, “The Test series against England as captain was a learning experience for me. Both teams performed excellently and I’m sure players from both sides will remember it for a long time. I thank the selection panel for choosing me and my teammates who supported me throughout this exciting series. I look forward to continuing my good form and bringing more glory to the country in the upcoming seasons.”
