India has selected its prime astronaut for the Indo US Space Mission. Group Captain Shubhanshu Shukla will be the main astronaut of this mission. He will be a part of it as a backup. The date of when Shubhanshu will go to the International Space Station (ISS) has not been announced yet. The Human Space Flight Center (HSFC) has signed a Space Flight Agreement (SFA) with the US-based Axiom Space for its upcoming Axiom-4 mission to the ISS. Out of the 4 Gaganyatris, the National Mission Assignment Board has selected Shubhanshu and Prashant. The Indo US Space Mission Agreement will help India to complete its upcoming Gaganyaan mission. Both Group Captain Shubhanshu and Group Captain Prashant will be trained for the mission in the US from the first week of August. During the space mission, the selected Gaganyatris will test scientific research and technologies. Apart from this, they will also be involved in outreach activities in space.
