SCO Members Condemn Terrorism, Stress on Justice for Pahalgam Attack
Date: September 1
On the second day of the SCO (Shanghai Cooperation Organisation) Summit held in China, India achieved a significant diplomatic success. In the presence of Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, the Pahalgam terror attack was officially condemned.
The SCO declaration stated that it is crucial to punish the perpetrators, organizers, and supporters of such attacks. This refers to the tragic incident on April 22, where terrorists gunned down 26 tourists in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir.
Notably, the earlier SCO Defence Ministers' meeting in June did not mention the Pahalgam attack, which led to India's strong objection and refusal to sign the declaration.
In another key moment of the summit, Russian President Vladimir Putin and Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi arrived together in the same car for bilateral talks. Reports suggest that the two leaders held a secret conversation for 45 minutes in the vehicle prior to the meeting. Discussions included Putin’s upcoming visit to India.
