Sabalenka Wins Second Consecutive US Open Title, Becomes Second Woman to Defend Trophy
World No.1 and defending champion Aryna Sabalenka (27) of Belarus has won her second consecutive US Open title. In the final held on September 6 at Arthur Ashe Stadium, she defeated American Amanda Anisimova 6-3, 7-6 (7/3).
This marks Sabalenka’s fourth Grand Slam title. It was her third Grand Slam final this year. Earlier in 2025, she lost to American players twice — Madison Keys in the Australian Open final in January and Coco Gauff in the French Open final in June.
On Sunday, the men’s singles final will take place between Carlos Alcaraz and Jannik Sinner.
Last year, Sabalenka won her first US Open title by defeating American Jessica Pegula. With this victory, she becomes the first woman since Serena Williams (2012–2014) to win back-to-back US Open titles.
Interestingly, Sabalenka had lost to Anisimova in the Wimbledon semi-final in July. Before this US Open final, the two had faced each other nine times, with Anisimova winning six of those encounters. However, after her Wimbledon win over Sabalenka, Anisimova lost her first Grand Slam final to Iga Swiatek with a scoreline of 6-0, 6-0.
