Russia Says – 5% Cheaper Oil for India, Will Expand Trade Ties
Despite threats from U.S. President Donald Trump over buying oil from Russia, the Russian government has announced it will continue supplying crude oil to India at a 5% discount.
Evgeny Griva, Deputy Trade Representative of Russia in India, stated that India will continue purchasing Russian crude oil despite U.S. pressure. Trump had previously threatened to impose tariffs on India for continuing oil trade with Russia, a move strongly opposed by India.
While the U.S. administration continues to pressure India to halt oil purchases from Russia, Russia has reaffirmed its commitment to maintaining energy trade. Griva confirmed, “India will continue to receive a 5% discount on Russian crude oil.”
Trump Imposes Tariffs on India Over Russian Oil
Recently, U.S. President Donald Trump announced a 25% + 25% tariff on Indian goods in response to India's ongoing oil trade with Russia. India has strongly objected to this decision.
According to the U.S., India is indirectly supporting Russia in the ongoing Russia-Ukraine war by purchasing its oil. However, India has made it clear that it does not interfere in Russia's political matters and that the oil trade is purely based on national interest and energy security.
