Ramesh Sippy Honored with Icon of Indian Cinema Award
Veteran filmmaker Ramesh Sippy has been awarded the first 'Raj Kapoor Award for Excellence in Cinema'. The award trophy, established by the Asian Centre for Entertainment Education (ACEE) in collaboration with organizations like World Bank, UNICEF, USC Annenberg Norman Lear Center, Hollywood Health and Society, Cinepolis Foundation, and CMS, was unveiled on Wednesday.
ACEE co-founder Vinta Nanda said, "These global awards are being launched in memory of independent India's greatest showman, Raj Kapoor. He was a rare filmmaker who created mainstream and popular entertainment cinema within contemporary social contexts."
The 71-year-old filmmaker of Shohle, Ramesh Sippy, was honored at ACEE's conference 'Elevate 2K18' in Mumbai for his outstanding contributions to cinema. The Padma Shri awardee also produced the television series 'Buniyad' aired on Doordarshan.
