Rage-Bait Chosen as Oxford's Word of the Year 2025
Oxford University Press has selected 'Rage-Bait' as the Word of the Year 2025. Rage-bait refers to online content that is deliberately designed to provoke anger, outrage, or frustration among viewers. If you often feel angry while scrolling through social media, chances are you may be a victim of 'rage-bait.' According to Oxford, the usage of this term has increased threefold over the past 12 months.
'Rage-bait' won the title after surpassing other contenders like 'Aura Farming' and 'Biohacking.' Aura Farming refers to the act of portraying oneself as attractive, mysterious, or highly self-confident, while Biohacking refers to efforts to enhance one's physical or mental capabilities through diet, exercise, lifestyle, or technological means. Public voting was held for these three terms, and after that, language experts made the final decision.
