R. Ashwin Retires from IPL After 16 Years

On August 27, former Indian cricketer Ravichandran Ashwin officially announced his retirement from the Indian Premier League (IPL). Having represented five different IPL teams throughout his career, Ashwin shared the news via a tweet.

Last year, Ashwin had also retired from international cricket. Now, with his IPL retirement, he stated that he plans to continue playing in various franchise cricket leagues around the world.

"A special day and a special beginning. They say every ending is a new beginning. My journey as an IPL cricketer ends today, but my exploration of the game continues. I look forward to playing in different leagues around the world."

Ashwin's IPL Legacy

Ashwin, one of India’s legendary off-spinners, played a crucial role in helping Chennai Super Kings (CSK) win IPL titles in 2010 and 2011. Over the course of his IPL career, he played 221 matches and took 187 wickets.

IPL 2025 and Career Highlights

  • In the IPL 2025 season, Ashwin was bought by his former team CSK for ₹9.75 crore.
  • He played 9 matches and took 7 wickets during the season.
  • His best season came in 2014, where he took 16 wickets in 16 matches.
