Now the Prime Minister's Office Will Be Known as 'Seva Teerth'
The New Prime Minister's Office Building Renamed 'Seva Teerth'
On December 2, the central government made a significant decision to rename the new Prime Minister's office building as 'Seva Teerth'. This complex, part of the Central Vista Project, will soon become the new office of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Previously, it was known as the Executive Enclave.
What is 'Seva Teerth'?
'Seva Teerth' is being created as a workplace where the spirit of service will be paramount, and national priorities will take shape. The aim is to make service, duty, and transparency the foundation of governance. Along with this, the government has decided to rename the Raj Bhavans across states to Lok Bhavans, in line with the idea of public service.
The Shift from South Block to 'Seva Teerth'
The Prime Minister's office (PMO) will soon shift from its old office in South Block to the new 'Seva Teerth' complex. The complex will house 'Seva Teerth-1' as the main office for the PMO, 'Seva Teerth-2' will house the Cabinet Secretariat, and 'Seva Teerth-3' will house the National Security Advisor (NSA) office.
Government's Vision for 'Service' Over Power
Union Home Minister Amit Shah remarked that for the past 11 years, the Modi government has focused on 'service' rather than 'power', with the Prime Minister viewing himself as a 'servant of the people' working around the clock for the nation. This new naming reflects the government's commitment to service and good governance.
Renaming of Raj Bhavans to Lok Bhavans
Along with the renaming of the PMO, the government has decided to rename the Raj Bhavans (Governor Houses) across the country to 'Lok Bhavans'. Earlier, the name of Rajpath was changed to Karypath (Duty Path), and the Prime Minister’s residence is now known as Lok Kalyan Marg.
States Following the Change
As per the instructions issued by the Ministry of Home Affairs, eight states and one Union Territory have already changed the name of their Raj Bhavans. These include West Bengal, Tamil Nadu, Kerala, Assam, Uttarakhand, Odisha, Gujarat, and Tripura. Even Rajasthan has announced its plan to change the name of its Raj Bhavan to Lok Bhavan.
Effort to Remove Colonial Legacy
The Modi government is actively working to eliminate symbols of colonial rule from India. In addition to changing Rajpath to Karypath, it has also made government websites bilingual, with content in Hindi being prioritized. Additionally, the Beating Retreat ceremony no longer plays English songs like "Abide with Me".
