President Appoints Vikram Nath as Executive Chairman of NALSA

President Droupadi Murmu has appointed Supreme Court Judge Justice Vikram Nath as the Executive Chairman of the National Legal Services Authority (NALSA). In a related development, the Chief Justice of India Uday Umesh Lalit has designated Supreme Court Judge Justice Jitendra Kumar Maheshwari as the new Chairman of the Supreme Court Legal Services Committee (SCLSC). According to judicial tradition, the position of Executive Chairman of NALSA is held by the most senior judge after the Chief Justice of India. The second most senior judge of the Supreme Court holds the position of Chairman of the SCLSC. These appointments became effective on 8th December.

Justice Vikram Nath's nomination was made by the President under the powers granted by the Legal Services Authorities Act.
