Prepare for MPPSC Prelims- An Easy Guide for Beginners
Madhya Pradesh Public Service Commission, popularly referred to as ‘MPPSC’, is conducted by the Madhya Pradesh Professional Examination Board (MPPEB), formerly known as ‘Vyapam’ to fill up the state service administrative posts like deputy collector, income/sales tax officers, SDMs, forest officers, etc.

All the eligible candidates who wish to appear for the exam can apply online on the board’s online portal called ‘MP Online’ during the predefined dates as mentioned in the notification advertised by the board. While the application process is an easy one with a nominal fee charged from every applicant, the real struggle starts after the application process – the dilemma of ‘how to prepare’?

MPPSC, just like the UPSC, has aspirants from diverse backgrounds. Sometimes, an already qualified candidate also appears even after getting selected to get a better post or department.

To ensure timely preparation and to crack the exam with the desired results, it is important that a candidate or an aspirant must have detailed knowledge about the fundamentals including exam stages, eligibility, and other related aspects.

So, let’s begin to learn more about the MPPSC exam.

The MPPSC exam, similar to its counterpart, has three stages-

MPPSC Preliminary/Prelims Exam
MPPSC Mains Exam
Interview
Both the Prelims and Mains Exam have a different yet interrelated syllabus, keeping in view the exam pattern. This article deals with the Prelims exam syllabus, preparation tips, and methods.

The first stage or the Pre-exam includes two multiple-choice objective type papers. The papers are meant to screen a candidate’s grasp over fundamental subjects including, but not limited to language, current affairs, and general knowledge, polity, history, geography, etc.

The candidates qualifying in the Prelims exam are eligible to appear in the Mains exam, whereas the final selection is based on the marks secured in the Mains exam and Interview.

The two question papers, General Studies, and General Aptitude have 100 questions each with every question carrying two marks. A candidate has to select the right answer among the four given choices – A, B, C & D and record it in the OCR-based answer book.

For the convenience of a candidate, all the questions have both an English and a Hindi version.

Prelims Paper I: General Studies covers below topics-

History
Geography
Polity
Economy
Science and Technology
Environmental Issues
Art and Culture
Madhya Pradesh (state-related questions)

Prelims Paper II: CSAT tests a candidate on the following areas-
