Powerful Earthquake Hits Afghanistan, Over 800 Dead

A powerful earthquake with a magnitude of 6.0 on the Richter scale struck eastern Afghanistan late at night. The disaster has claimed more than 800 lives and left over 2,500 people injured.
The quake devastated several villages in the provinces of Kunar, Nangarhar, and Laghman. Entire families were buried under the debris. The Health Ministry reported that emergency medical teams have reached the affected areas and are treating patients in temporary relief centers.
Officials fear the death toll may rise, as communication has not yet been established with many remote districts. Due to the risk of disease outbreaks, the ministry has made an urgent appeal for international aid.
India has begun sending relief materials. In a post on X, External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar confirmed that 1,000 tents have arrived in Kabul and 15 tons of food supplies are being delivered to Kunar. More aid will follow in the coming days.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed his sorrow over the tragedy and assured Afghanistan of all possible humanitarian support from India.
