PM Modi Launches Bihar’s Mukhyamantri Mahila Rojgar Yojana
Prime Minister Narendra Modi, via video conferencing, launched the Mukhyamantri Mahila Rojgar Yojana in Bihar. Under this initiative, 75 lakh women across the state will receive ₹10,000 each as direct financial support to promote self-employment and economic independence.
Total ₹7,500 Crore Transferred to Women’s Bank Accounts
During the launch event, PM Modi directly transferred ₹10,000 into each of the 75 lakh women's bank accounts, amounting to a total of ₹7,500 crore. The funds are being gradually credited to the beneficiaries through Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT).
Historic Step Towards Women Empowerment: CM Nitish Kumar
Chief Minister Nitish Kumar called it a historic step in the direction of women empowerment. He stated that this is more than a financial transfer—it is a means for women to fulfill their dreams and improve their quality of life. By starting their own businesses, women will be able to generate income and uplift their families economically.
What is Mukhyamantri Mahila Rojgar Yojana?
This scheme aims to empower women by offering initial capital for launching self-employment ventures and livelihood activities of their choice. Each eligible woman will receive ₹10,000 as a startup grant through DBT. In subsequent phases, additional support of up to ₹2 lakh may be available.
Beneficiaries are free to choose sectors such as agriculture, animal husbandry, handicrafts, tailoring, weaving, or small-scale businesses. Beyond financial assistance, women will also receive training and support through community resource persons from Self-Help Groups (SHGs). Rural markets will also be strengthened to facilitate better access to buyers for their products.
Who is Eligible for the Scheme?
- Only women who are permanent residents of Bihar are eligible.
- Applicants must be between 18 to 60 years of age.
- Minimum educational qualification: 10+2 (Intermediate), ITI, Polytechnic Diploma, or equivalent.
- No family member of the applicant should be in a government job.
Women Will Use the Funds Wisely – CM Nitish Kumar
CM Nitish Kumar expressed confidence that the mothers and sisters of Bihar will utilize the funds wisely. He also took a dig at previous governments, saying that they only worked for their families while his government is working for the entire state.
