PM Modi Awarded Kuwait's Highest Honor
After completing a two-day visit, Prime Minister Narendra Modi returned to India late on December 22. During his visit, Modi met with Kuwait's three top personalities: Amir Sheikh Meshal Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah, Crown Prince Sheikh Sabah Al-Khalid, and PM Sheikh Ahmad Al-Abdullah. Prime Minister Modi was awarded Kuwait's highest honor, the 'Order of Mubarak Al Kabir'. This is the 20th international honor awarded to PM Modi by a foreign country.
Becoming the first Indian Prime Minister to visit Kuwait in 43 years, Modi made efforts to make up for the lost time during his visit to the Gulf country.
During the visit, a historic defense cooperation agreement was signed between India and Kuwait. Kuwait is set to assume the presidency of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) next month, and it is expected that PM Modi’s visit will further strengthen India’s relations with the GCC as a whole.
Kuwait Seeks Help from India
The Kuwaiti government has prepared a plan for the country’s progress by 2035 and has requested India’s assistance in this regard. Following this, Modi met with the Crown Prince, during which both countries discussed establishing closer cooperation in agencies like the United Nations. Finally, Modi met with Kuwait's Prime Minister Al-Abdullah, where discussions were held on areas such as trade, investment, energy, defense, security, health, education, and technology.
Modi Invites Investment in India
During the meeting, Modi invited the Kuwaiti Investment Authority (KIA) to invest in India's defense, energy, pharma, and food park sectors, which have vast potential. KIA has a fund of $970 billion until November 2024, making it the fifth-largest fund management company in the world, having invested in major companies in the US and Europe.
Four Agreements Signed
It is worth noting that earlier, Modi played a key role in attracting the UAE's sovereign fund to invest in India. The sovereign fund is investing $100 billion in India. Four agreements were signed between India and Kuwait in the presence of both prime ministers, with the most significant being an agreement on defense cooperation. Other agreements focused on increasing cooperation in sports, culture, and solar energy.
