PM Jan Dhan Yojana Empowers Citizens to Shape Their Own Destiny: PM Modi
On the occasion of the 11th anniversary of the Pradhan Mantri Jan Dhan Yojana (PMJDY), Prime Minister Narendra Modi stated on Thursday that the scheme has empowered people to write their own destiny. He emphasized that when the person standing last in the line becomes financially included, the entire nation progresses together.
Launched in 2014: Vision of Financial Inclusion
The PM Jan Dhan Yojana was launched on this very day in 2014 with the goal of achieving comprehensive financial inclusion for all households in India. Under the scheme, citizens were given access to at least one basic banking account per family, financial literacy, credit, insurance, and pension services.
Modi on X: Jan Dhan Yojana Elevated Dignity
In a post on X (formerly Twitter), Prime Minister Modi said, “When the last person becomes financially included, the entire nation moves forward together. That is what the PM Jan Dhan Yojana has achieved. It has elevated dignity and empowered people to shape their own destiny.”

In another post, the Prime Minister shared a ‘MyGov’ message illustrating how the scheme has transformed lives across India. The post stated: “Not just mathematical formulas, but the formula for India’s growth. India’s financial revolution is driven by the idea of inclusion through innovation. From last-mile banking to women-led empowerment, from transparent DBT transfers to trust in governance—PM Jan Dhan Yojana has changed the way India banks, saves, and grows.”
No Poor Family Left Outside the Banking System
MyGov also highlighted another quote: “11 years ago, PM Modi promised that no poor family would remain outside the world of banking. Jan Dhan was never just about bank accounts—it was about giving a mother the power to save with dignity, a farmer access to support without middlemen, and a villager the feeling of contributing to national development.”
