In the coming six months, two major changes will be seen on the streets of Bhopal. The first change will be the launch of the Bhopal Metro by July. The second change will be the addition of electric buses to the city's fleet. Under the PM e-Bus scheme, 552 urban electric buses will be run in six cities of the state (Bhopal, Indore, Gwalior, Jabalpur, Ujjain, and Sagar) under the PPP model. Approval for this was given last February.
Dr. Parikshit Jade, Additional Commissioner of the Urban Development and Housing Department, told our partner TOI that they expect the intra-city buses under the PM e-Bus scheme to start by mid or end of 2025. The goal of this initiative is to reduce the financial burden on public transport users, especially thousands of students and other passengers who have been unable to avail subsidized bus passes since the end of the pandemic.
