OpenAI Opens First Office in Delhi, India

On 12th November, the artificial intelligence (AI) company OpenAI leased a 50-seater office space in Delhi. This will be the company's first office in India. According to Economic Times, the space was leased in agreement with the premium workspace provider Corporate Age.

OpenAI, the parent company of ChatGPT, had announced in August that it would open an office in India. Currently, the company was scouting for office space in Delhi. OpenAI is also building a local team to collaborate with the government, businesses, and developers in India. CEO Sam Altman said in August that opening the first office in India is a key plan for the company to develop AI for and with India. He added that the adoption of AI in India has been remarkable, and the company is excited to invest further in the country.

OpenAI stated that India is its second largest market after the USA and one of the fastest-growing markets. Over the past year, the number of weekly active ChatGPT users in India has increased more than four times. India is also among the top 5 markets for OpenAI developers. Moreover, the highest number of students using ChatGPT worldwide are from India.
