On March 14, under the chairmanship of Chief Minister Dr. Mohan Yadav, the State Wildlife Board gave approval for the formation of Omkareshwar and Shyopur's Jahangadh Century. This project had been pending for 20 years. Omkareshwar Wildlife Sanctuary will be created between Khandwa and Dewas, while the Jahangadh Sanctuary will be established in the revenue forest area near Kuno in Shyo pur.

Omkareshwar Sanctuary - 614.07 sq km

The area of the Omkareshwar Sanctuary will be 614.07 square kilometers, and the Jahangadh Sanctuary will be 6.32 square kilometers in size.

Background of the Project

At the time of the approval of the Sardar Sarovar Dam, the Ministry of Environment and Forests had set a condition to create a sanctuary or national park in the Omkareshwar region, covering an area of 1,000 square kilometers, to compensate for the submergence area. However, this proposal had been delayed for years. The revised proposal has now reduced the area to 614 square kilometers.
