OBC Reservation Dispute: MPPSC Seeks Apology in Supreme Court
In the ongoing legal battle over OBC (Other Backward Classes) reservation in Madhya Pradesh, the Madhya Pradesh Public Service Commission (MPPSC) submitted a fresh application to the Supreme Court on August 27, 2025. In the application, MPPSC has requested the withdrawal of its previous counter-affidavit filed on August 19.
The earlier affidavit claimed that the petitions demanding 27% OBC reservation were not maintainable and should be dismissed. Now, MPPSC has expressed regret and is seeking to revise its stance through a new affidavit.
All-Party Meeting Called by Madhya Pradesh Government
In a parallel development, the Madhya Pradesh government has called for an all-party meeting on Thursday to build consensus on the 27% OBC reservation issue. The meeting will be held at the Chief Minister's residence at 11:00 AM and chaired by Chief Minister Dr. Mohan Yadav.
Representatives from various political parties, including Congress State President Jitu Patwari and Leader of Opposition Umang Singhar, are expected to attend. The goal is to find a political and legal solution to the ongoing reservation crisis.
Details from the Supreme Court Proceedings
The OBC Mahasabha’s legal counsel informed the court that MPPSC had filed a counter affidavit on August 19, 2025, requesting dismissal of petitions filed by selected OBC candidates. These candidates argued that since the law provides for 27% reservation in Madhya Pradesh, they should be appointed under that quota.
MPPSC’s recent move to withdraw the earlier affidavit indicates a potential shift in position, possibly in response to public and political pressure. The Supreme Court’s verdict on the matter is still pending.
