NISAR Satellite to Map Earth Every 12 Days
NISAR (NASA-ISRO Synthetic Aperture Radar), a collaborative satellite mission between the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) and the United States space agency NASA, was successfully placed into orbit on Wednesday via the GSLV rocket launch.
Monitoring Landslides and Glaciers
The satellite will use its 240-kilometer-wide radar swath to create a comprehensive map of the Earth every 12 days. This capability will provide critical data for scientists and disaster response teams to monitor natural hazards—ranging from glacial retreat in the Himalayas to potential landslide zones in South America.
The cutting-edge radar technology will enable high-resolution imaging regardless of weather conditions or time of day, making NISAR a vital tool for earth observation, climate change tracking, and disaster preparedness.
