New Income Tax Bill and Other Legislation Passed in Lok Sabha

Amid protests over voter verification and allegations of vote theft, the new Income Tax Bill (Number--2) 2025 and the Taxation Laws Amendment Bill 2025 were passed in the Lok Sabha on August 11 without discussion. In the Rajya Sabha, the Goa Assembly ST Reservation Bill and three other bills related to Manipur were introduced.

However, the opposition continued their protests as these bills were introduced. Rajya Sabha MP Mallikarjun Kharge said that while discussions are being sought, the bills are being passed without any order in the house, calling it a betrayal of democracy. He emphasized that democracy should be protected and that the chair and leader of the house should clarify the situation. "What kind of democracy is this?" he added.

In the Lok Sabha, the National Sports Governance Bill 2025 was passed, and when the house reconvened at 2 PM, the National Anti-Doping (Amendment) Bill was also passed. Sports Minister Mansukh Mandaviya called this the biggest reform in Indian sports since independence.

Earlier, over 300 opposition MPs marched from Parliament to the Election Commission office in protest against voter verification. During this protest, several opposition leaders, including Rahul Gandhi, Priyanka Gandhi, and Akhilesh Yadav, were detained. However, they were released after two hours.
