'My Melbourne' Wins Best Film at UK Asian Film Festival
'My Melbourne', a film directed by renowned Indian filmmakers Imtiaz Ali, Onir, Rima Das, and Kabir Khan, has won the Best Film award at the 27th UK Asian Film Festival.
According to a press release, the film, produced by Mitu Bhowmick Lange in partnership with VicScreen and Screen Australia, also received a special recognition award at the festival.
'My Melbourne' comprises four short films: Emma by Rima Das, Jules by Imtiaz Ali, Nandini by Onir, and Setara by Kabir Khan. These stories address important issues such as gender discrimination, race, and disability.
Director Imtiaz Ali shared, "Working on 'My Melbourne' was a deeply rewarding experience. Winning this award validates the importance of stories that transcend geographic boundaries and reflect universal human emotions."
Kabir Khan added, "Cinema has the power to connect cultures and promote empathy. 'My Melbourne' stands as proof of that."
The international premiere of 'My Melbourne' took place at the 15th Indian Film Festival of Melbourne. It was later screened in India at the 2024 MAMI Film Festival.
Filmmaker Rima Das remarked, "This award is special because it shows that personal stories can also be universal."
Onir said, "This film is very close to my heart as it allowed us to tell meaningful stories that go beyond borders and connect through themes of love and belonging. I'm honored and overwhelmed to be part of this beautiful journey."
The UK Asian Film Festival was held in London from May 1 to May 11.
