MP Govt Affirms 27% OBC Reservation Where No Court Stay Exists
On the second day of the Madhya Pradesh Assembly Monsoon Session (29 July), key issues like reservation, caste-based census, private school regulation, alleged corruption in the Jal Jeevan Mission, and actions against public representatives dominated the discussions.
Chief Minister Dr. Mohan Yadav asserted that the state government is fully committed to providing 27% reservation to Other Backward Classes (OBCs). He stated, “We are openly declaring that we will give 27% reservation to OBCs. Where there is no court stay, reservation has been implemented. Where the matter is pending, the government is presenting its stand in court.”
He accused the Congress of inciting social unrest and blamed them for halting the caste-based census. “The sin of stopping the caste census lies with the then Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru. Later, Indira Gandhi and Rajiv Gandhi’s governments also did not conduct it,” he said. The Chief Minister added that Prime Minister Narendra Modi has supported the idea of a caste-based census and assured that timely data will be released to the public.
Prior to the session, Congress MLAs protested in the Assembly premises using the symbolic act of playing a flute before a buffalo to express dissent.
Action on Private Schools
School Education Minister Rao Uday Pratap Singh addressed the issue of unauthorized activities by private schools. He stated that a regulatory act has been implemented in the state, and all schools must upload their fee structure on the official portal by 8 August. Those failing to comply will face action by the district collectors.
He informed the Assembly that action has already been taken on 106 complaints, which led to fee refunds and penalties imposed on erring schools.
