MP Government Raises Compensation to 200% for High-Tension Lines Over Farmland
Major Relief for Farmers
The Madhya Pradesh government has announced a major relief for farmers by increasing compensation for land affected by high-tension electricity lines. Now, if a 66 kV or above capacity high-tension line passes over a farmer’s field, the landowner will receive 200% compensation based on the Collector Guideline value. Previously, the compensation was only 85%.
Revised Compensation Policy
According to the new government order, when high-tension lines of 66 kV or above are laid across farmland, the landowner will receive 200% compensation for the acquired area. This change aims to fairly compensate farmers for the use of their land while maintaining ownership rights.
The Revenue Department has clarified that for tower installation, complete compensation will be paid for the area covered by all four legs of the tower, including an additional one meter area on both sides. However, the land will remain in possession of the farmer.
Additionally, for the Right of Way (ROW) under transmission lines, 30% of the Collector Guideline value will be paid as compensation for the corridor area. Construction in the ROW zone will not be allowed.
Compensation Assessment
The District Collector will determine the compensation amount based on market value and prescribed government standards. The government has also published corridor-width norms for different high-tension line capacities.
ROW Corridor Area Based on High-Tension Line Capacity
| KV High-Tension Line | Normal Area | Forest Area | Urban Population Area |
|---|---|---|---|
| 400 kV | 46 meters | 40 meters | 38 meters |
| 220 kV | 32 meters | 28 meters | 24 meters |
| 132 kV | 25 meters | 21 meters | 19 meters |
